What is Mountain Biking?

Some refer to it as “mud, sweat and gears” but Mountain Biking is a sport which is basically an off road bicycle ride, over rough and varied terrain, using specially adapted Mountain Bikes. Like most sports, Mountain Biking has plenty of variations, of which The Adventure Team can offer cross-country trail riding and skills courses.

Why should I try Mountain Biking?

Tried road cycling and enjoyed it? Want to test yourself on other terrains, while discovering the thrills and challenges that lie ahead with Mountain Biking? If you fancy learning a new sport, testing your endurance, challenging yourself or simply want a new thrill…then Mountain Biking is for you! And if you are a complete newcomer to Mountain Biking, The Adventure Team can provide a skills course or arrange 1-2-1 tuition to equip you with the skills needed for riding a Mountain Bike.

Where can I try Mountain Biking?

Mountain Biking can take place almost anywhere! And we are lucky enough to have some fantastic Mountain Bike tracks right on our doorstep, in Gortin and know plenty of others throughout Northern Ireland. However, The Adventure Team can bring the experience to you and assemble Mountain Bike obstacle courses at other venues – perfect for learning new skills and testing them against everyone else as well as yourself.

What age do I have to be to try Mountain Biking?

Mountain Biking is suitable for anyone age 8 or over in good health. Remember that Mountain Biking is not necessarily a young people’s hobby. If you feel young at heart and are fit enough, then be sure to give it a go!

How long does a Mountain Biking trip last?

A standard Mountain Biking trip with The Adventure Team can last approximately 2.5 hours. Longer sessions can be expected when combined with skills courses.

What equipment do I need for Mountain Biking?

The Adventure Team will provide all specialist equipment including bikes, gloves and helmets – all that you need to provide is:

  • Comfortable clothes – not too baggy and definitely not denim!

  • Sturdy footwear such as trainers or light boots (sandals are not appropriate)

  • Some good enthusiasm with a drop of determination

Will I be safe Mountain Biking with The Adventure Team?

Aside from the gloves, helmets and regularly serviced bikes that we provide, we at The Adventure Team have over 15 years experience in the delivery of Mountain Biking activities and adhere to best practice principles for Mountain Biking. Every single one of our instructors are trained and assessed in accordance with our Activity Guidelines detailed in our comprehensive Risk Assessment Policy. Our instructors are all qualified First Aiders and meet all of our Child Protection checks including ACCESS NI. We also have a comprehensive Risk Assessment Policy and hold a £5 million insurance policy.

How much does it cost to go Mountain Biking?

Mountain Biking costs £45 per person and we have a special youth rate of £30 per person or bring your own bikes and save £10 per person. You can add another activity for only £10 per person. Discounts are available on open session, family days and members of The Adventure Club!
